Salt & Light: P.1 (8.1.18)

Matthew 5:13-16
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

We have been called, equipped and set to advance the principles laid out in the sermon on the mount.

Salt purifies.

Righteousness in the presence of sin should be like salt to an open wound.

Ephesians 5:26
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

John 15:3
Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

The Word has cleansing power.

Psalm 119:9,11
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

We should ask ourselves,  in what area of life have we not allowed the Word to cleanse us?

Salt preserves. As Christians we should preserve truth.

Salt promotes flavor.

Colossians 4:6
Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
