Let the redeemed of the Lord say so…Psalms107:2
Jesus came and died for us. He has redeemed us.
When you say the word redeemed, you’re saying that a purchase has been made, a debt has been paid, or a ransom has been offered.
Pastor James will share ten different things that scripture says we are redeemed from. Today, we focus on our redemption from death & the grave.
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
We learn in Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
We were all in debt to sin and the wages of sin is death. When Jesus came and died on the cross for our sins he made seven statements.
The first statement was “Eloi Eloi lama sabachthani?” which is interpreted, “My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?” (Mark 15:34). Jesus took on separation from God for us.
The last statement was “Tetelestai.” which is translated as “It is finished.” (John 19:30) He was saying, this debt of death has been paid.
For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
Job was saying that his faith was in Jesus and that he knew that his redemption through Jesus would bring him life after death. The only way to live beyond the grave is redemption. We cannot server, give, or church our way to Heaven.
Revelation 5 speaks of us celebrating redemption in heaven. There is no eternal life without redemption.
Jesus died to pay our sin debt!
I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.
There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.
This passage from Ecclesiastes is horrific if you are lost. It teaches that no person can go into the battle of death and win. You cannot make war with death, you can only be redeemed from it. If you die lost, you are lost. If you die saved, you are saved.
Jesus died for more than us to walk in the fruit of the Spirit. He came to save us from the judgement and penalty of death. Death is no respecter of persons, we have to be ready.
Heaven is real, it is the origin and model for earth. Everything that the earth has, Heaven has a better version of it.
Isaiah 11 teaches that Heaven has the lion and the lamb, but the lion does not eat the lamb.
Revelation 21 describes Heaven’s major city, the new Jerusalem where the throne of God is.
Answers to many questions about heaven are actually addressed with scripture reference in Pastor’s book, Missing Momma.
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Redemption of the purchased possession. Where you see the word earnest, you can replace with guarantee.
When you became saved, the Holy Spirit was sealed in you. He became resident in you. There is a difference between being sealed and filled. There is a difference in the Holy Spirit being resident or president in you.
But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
In this scripture, Heaven is explained to be better than the place left behind. Our vision of heaven may be hindered by the lies we’ve heard on earth. Heaven is not some mystical place in the clouds. We must get a revelation of what heaven really is.
Psalms 21 teaches us that we don’t know the pain of death because Jesus already paid it. For as long as there has been death, man has tried to cover it up and make it look good. However, death is like water, ounce poured in the ground, you can’t get it back. God made us an earth suit out of the earth only so that we could live in it while on earth. One day we will have a suit for heaven!
1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 12-14, 21-22, 25, 40-40, 42-44, 47-49, 51-58
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
Whatever you do in life, it all fades away. Only the work that you’ve done for the Lord will last.
