We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
We are dealing with 10 things the bible says we are redeemed from but iniquity should be given close attention. Of all the things we have been saved from, iniquity is the most important observation. It affects our eternal standing.
If you have ever committed a sin and felt convicted, the right response would be to repent and turn away from the sin. To continue to walk in the sin or not hear and feel conviction about it is iniquity.
If you’ve felt conviction and then your sin becomes a habit. When you decide to live in it, this is iniquity. It means the sin no longer bothers you.
A sin becomes iniquity when you’ve allowed it in your life so long that you are now numb to the voice of conviction.
When you are in iniquity, your heart becomes callused.
You don’t want to die in iniquity.
The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. ‘
Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
2 Thessalonians 2:7 teaches us that men will grow in iniquity.
For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
It is as dangerous as the nerves in your hand no longer working. You could have your hand in flames with your skin melting and you wouldn’t know it without the nerves in your hand working. Conviction is the nerves to your life.
By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.
Mercy – There is no being redeemed outside of mercy.
Truth – Jesus defines truth in John 17:17
We need the voice of truth in our life. If we are ignoring our conscience, we need the truth spoken to and over us. It will make you uncomfortable, it will make you want to get up and leave, but, it is needed.
The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.
The truth of God was not sent to condemn, it was sent to give us a standard to judge things in our life by.
You don’t need someone in your life who doesn’t tell you the truth. Truth exposes darkness.
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
This freedom is not provided for us to live in sin but it was provided so that we could live free from sin.
2 Peter 2:1-3
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
God speaks truth over your life to spare you from iniquity. No one should want to die and go to hell because the preacher and the people around me said that what I was doing was ok. If iniquity is not dealt with then you don’t receive Christ or heaven.
Iniquity passes through the bloodline. Whatever sin you won’t deal with in your life will be left for your children to deal with in their life.
Many people quote Psalms 119:133 which is a request to the Lord to “order my steps in thy word” but the next part of that passage says to “let not iniquity have dominion over me.
None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.
If the people in my life won’t speak truth they become the breeding ground for iniquity
And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.
To walk in love is to tell the truth. 1 Corinthians 13:6 teaches us that love does not rejoice in iniquity, it rejoices in truth.
Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Renew in me a right spirit means that you are asking God “put me back in a place where that will convict me again.”
If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.’
But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all their sin. Selah. Shew us thy mercy, O Lord , and grant us thy salvation.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
