“And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.”
Exodus 12:1-2
• The Lord reset the calendar for the children of Israel before He freed them.
• This was their last night in bondage. They also took the passover meal that we know today as communion.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17
• 1 Corinthians 10, teaches that all the things done in the Old Testament were an example of things we should do.
• Sometimes it can be easy for us to forget that when a believer accepts Christ, they have a new birth, they have new redemption and new life, they have a new spirit.
• Let’s believe God for something new in this new year. God specializes in making all things new.
“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:18-19
• Don’t get caught up in the old things. If we’re not careful, we allow our tradition to rob us of truth.
• God can’t do a new thing when we are caught up in the old things.
• God knows how to speak in a today generation voice. Don’t force an old way on a new life.
• “Sing a new song” is recorded six times in the book of Psalms and once in the book of Isaiah yet many people don’t want to join a church that is singing a new song. They want the old song that doesn’t take any mental effort to remember and sing.
• When God says something in His word more than once, He is trying to get through to you.
• New means better!
“Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them. Sing unto the Lord a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.”
Isaiah 42:9-10
• You can’t do anything about your past. This scripture tells us to look forward to new things.
• The other scriptures where “Sing a new song” is recorded is: Psalm 33:3, Psalm 40:3, Psalm 96:1, Psalm 98:1, Psalm 144:9, and Psalm 149:1
“Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not? And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast. No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse. Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.”
Matthew 9:14-17
• Jesus didn’t need to heal the same way every time he healed. He healed one blind man as he was running toward him while he healed another by putting mud on his eyes.
• We want to force our old way onto their new. How many believers were choked Putin church because we try to force an old way on them. Don’t try to make new believers fit into old tradition.
– “Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.” Mark 7:13
– “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,” Philippians 3:13
– “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62
• Genesis 40 & 41 details the story of Joseph and how he toiled as a slave but eventually went from the prison to the palace. He named his firstborn “Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.” Genesis 41:51. When God told Moses to build the temple, Judah (which means praise) was placed at the entrance in the East. Manasseh (which represents our past) was placed as far away from Judah at the back of the temple on the West (Numbers 2:1-31). If you were to try to access God through Manasseh, your past, you would be on the back side of the temple on the opposite side of the entrance. God has called us to access Him through Judah, our praise!
