1 Samuel 3:1-7

[1] And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision. [2] And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see; [3] And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord , where the ark of God was , and Samuel was laid down to sleep ; [4] That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I. [5] And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down. [6] And the Lord called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again. [7] Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord , neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.

We must acknowledge when the voice of the Lord is speaking into our spirit.

Having an ear to hear is the art of being a Christian.

You can take what you feel like you are hearing from God and He will confirm it.

We must grow past the point that we just hear a “yes” and “no” from God.

1 Samuel 3:19
[19] And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

  1. Character

Recognize the character of the voice of God through His Word.

John 1:1…
1 John 5:7…three bear record and these three are one

The Father is in unity with the Word and His Spirit.

John 8:47
[47] He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Every beloved should have an appetite for the Word of God and should hunger and thirst after His Word.

Every voice you hear is not from God.

1 John 4:1
[1] Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

We must weight things against the Word of God to see if they reflect the character of God.

2. Content

Recognize the content of the voice of God through His Word.

Proverbs 20:27
[27] The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord , searching all the inward parts of the belly.

1 Thes 5:23
John 4:24

If the Lord is going to lead you and give light, He is going to use your spirit.

What if your candle is not lit?

3. Confirmation

Recognize confirmation of the Voice of God through His Word.

God leads and confirms His voice through His Word and others.

Psalm 18:28
[28] For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.

The most important thing you do in life is hear from God.

Am I setting my self in a position to hear from God and removing the distractions and noise of the world?

Don’t be afraid to get confirmation…ask for it.

4. Conviction

You can’t stop someone that has been convinced, who has conviction.

Luke 15:8
[8] Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it ?

When you are searching for something you need your candle lit.

You don’t have to walk in darkness or confusion, God is able to light your candle and give illumination.
