The Power To Be Still: P.1 (10.15.17)

Psalm 46:10-11
[10] Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. [11] The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Anxiety will prevent excellence and promotion.

Luke 10:38-42
[38] Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.[39] And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word. [40] But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. [41] And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: [42] But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

God has a rhythm: 6 labors and a rest. If you don’t have a moment in your life that you are still, you wont be walking with God.

God’s Word will resolve the thing you are anxious about.

Mark 4:35-41
[35] And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. [36] And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. [37] And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. [38] And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? [39] And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. [40] And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? [41] And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

Jesus made the point to tell them the outcome of the trip: “We go to the other side.” He only said that for their sakes. The storm wasnt a threat to the boat, bc Jesus will always have what He says. However the storm did prevent the disciples from having peace. They didn’t rest in what Jesus already said, so they got anxious. It was because of this that Jesus spoke the Word .

There has to be time for and receiving the Word.

Be still and keep the main thing the main thing.

Don’t bring Jesus into your anxiety. Instead you enter into His rest.

Matthew 6:25,33
[25] Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? [33] But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Walk with God, don’t ask Him to Walk with you.

You can’t walk with God when you do not have stillness.

There was always a separation and a pause before Jesus did a miracle.

What you see publicly is a result of His private discipline.

John 7:8-10
[8] Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come. [9] When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee. [10] But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

Give yourself time to be still…schedule it.

Matthew 14:22-23
[22] And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. [23] And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

Mark 6:31-32
[31] And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. [32] And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.

Private discipline will bring public power.
