It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom; And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage. Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
God’s glory should be the motive in why we want to be excellent.
Comparison leads to:
Jealousy and envy
Instances in the Bible where someone fell into the comparison trap:
1 Samuel 18
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
1 Corinthians 10:31
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 10:17
But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
What you don’t celebrate in your life will leave your life.
You cannot judge the success in your life based on someone else’s life. They may not be in the same season as you. Instead, ask the Lord, “am I doing the best with what I have right now?”
Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
A priest is a representative. They re-present the person, characteristics, attributes, of the one they represent. We are representatives of a big God. We should represent in by showing his love, mercy, compassion, etc.. to the world.
Don’t let the way you represent the kingdom of God damage His kingdom.
There is nothing God can’t do- as long as man doesn’t take the credit for it. God will not share His glory.
Whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability- because the one you represent is mighty!
For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.
And the Lord hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments; And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the Lord thy God, as he hath spoken.
You do not have to tear someone else down to get to the top of where God wants you to be! Don’t miss the season you are in because you are too focused on someone else.
If you want to get to the top, humble yourself. Don’t make life about competition. God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble. If you humble yourself, He will lift you up. The world may try to compete with you, but don’t fall into the trap. Always roll the people who try to entrap you back over to Jesus.
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Peculiar here means sanctified. In a world that is filled with hate, we should be filled with love. People should be able to look at us and see that there is something different about us.
1 Peter 2:5-9
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
