The King’s Excellence-P.3 (1.29.17)

By January 30, 2017 No Comments

Don’t judge excellence by a horizontal standard, but by a vertical standard. Always be asking God, “what do you want from me right now in this season?”

Our purpose in life is to bring God glory. When we operate in Biblical excellence, it brings God glory.

The world’s opinion of excellence is comparison, or being better than the next guy.  We aren’t meant to live what way. When you spend your life trying to be someone else, you’ll spend your life being the bad version of the person you are trying to copy. You cannot compare your life to someone else because God has given us all unique callings and gifts to accomplish the unique purpose He has for us. Biblical excellence is based on bringing God glory by doing what He has created you to do individually.

Proverbs 8:13
[13] The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

The more God does in your life the more humble it makes you. We can see this progression in humility in Paul’s life. He goes from referring to himself as the least of the apostles (1 Corinthians 15:9), to less than the least of all saints (Ephesians 3:8), to the chief of all sinners (1 Timothy 1:15-16). The longer he walked with the Lord, and witnessed all that God did in his life, the more humble he became.

The blessing of God your my life is not about you…it is the goodness and grace of God! It’s meant to bring Him glory.

Luke 18:9-14
[9] And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: [10] Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. [11] The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are , extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. [12] I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. [13] And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. [14] I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Proverbs 29:23
A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

1 Peter 5:6
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Luke 14:11
For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Obadiah 1:3-4
The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the Lord .

Don’t let anything put you in the position of pride.

Psalm 34:1-3
[1] I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. [2] My soul shall make her boast in the Lord : the humble shall hear thereof , and be glad. [3] O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.

1 Timothy 3:6
Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

The value of your life can not be about things you have achieved.

1 John 2:16
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

God can’t do things in your life if you will take the credit…it has the be about to Glory of our God.

1 Kings 6:7
And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.

1 Chronicles 28:3
But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood.

God cannot use competitive people in His house

And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.

We need to get to a place that we don’t know how or why

Arrogance will cause use to be limited and it will limit what God can reveal to us through His Word.

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Everything in our life should bring God glory!!

Thus saith the Lord , Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord .

Jeremiah 9:23-24
Thus saith the Lord , Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord .

1 Corinthians 1:25,29,31
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. That no flesh should glory in his presence. That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

1 Corinthians 10:31
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

Excellence should be to bring God glory. As believers, we should be excellent in everything we do, so that we bring God glory.

2 Corinthians 11:30
If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities.

Revelation 4:11
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

God can do anything you won’t take the credit for.
