But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Be a doer (producer) of the word. We must consume in order to produce but don’t consume only.
For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
The word preached needs to be mixed with faith. It requires corresponding action to bring results.
If the enemy can get us to a consumer mindset, then he can work his plan in our lives. He delivers a plan that sounds beneficial to you and the plan usually highlights what you can or should consume.
The enemy even tried to deceive Jesus. After fasting forty days and nights, the enemy offered him bread when he was hungry. He wanted him to get him into a consumer mindset.
And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
When a person is self-centered, they’ve made a world that revolves around them with much expectation placed on others. The immature person can’t deal with not getting something that they feel that they should consume.
Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. (KJV)
Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. (AMP)
Church should be about what you get AND what you have to offer.
Salute every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren which are with me greet you.
2 Timothy 4:3
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2 Samuel 11:1-3
And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem. And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath–sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?
When the enemy seduces one into the consumer mindset it causes them to believe that they must consume whatever they want to. You can’t have everything that you want.
To say you should have whatever you desire is a lie.
And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done: When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
When he coveted, he became a consumer. Lust consumed him.
Scriptures for reference:
- James 1:14-15 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
- Romans 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
- Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
- 1 John 2:16-17 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
The enemy cannot advance his plan until you take on a consumer mindset.
The disguises of the enemy have included a wolf in sheep’s clothing and angel of light but the most convincing and damaging disguise is when he disguises himself as YOU. Until you can see him in your own head, you cannot defeat him. If he can turn you into a consumer, he can control you.
